Haruka Nanase has always loved water and swimming. In elementary school, he won a relay race with his friends Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rin Matsuoka. After their victory, the friends went their separate ways. Years later, Haruka, Makoto, and Nagisa reunite in high school, but their reunion is bittersweet when they encounter Rin, who has become distant and competitive, determined to prove he is a better swimmer than Haruka.

To settle their rivalry, Haruka decides to form the Iwatobi High School Swim Club with Makoto and Nagisa, but they need a fourth member to compete. They recruit Rei Ryuugazaki, a former track team member. As they train together, the four boys develop a close bond and prepare to face Rin in the upcoming tournament, hoping to prove their skills and resolve old conflicts.
