Summary
In the thirteenth-century Mongol Empire, knowledge can be as powerful as rank or beauty. Fatima, a Persian woman trained in medicine and science, enters the world of the Khan’s court, where survival depends on reading both people and politics with care.
Within the palace, her meeting with Töregene, one of Ögedei Khan’s wives, places her close to the shifting center of imperial power. The story blends historical drama with a female-led view of war, learning, slavery, and ambition, following women who must use intelligence in a world shaped by conquest and political danger.
