Rintarou Okabe is a scientist who loves to explore new things. He has a good friend Mayuri and a roommate Itaru who help him with his experiments. In their lab, the Future Gadget Laboratory, they try to make all kinds of gadgets. The most interesting one they made is a special microwave that can turn a banana into green goo!

One day, Rintarou hears about a scientist called Kurisu Makise who is talking about time travel. Rintarou finds out his gadgets can send messages to the past and this attracts the attention of an organization called SERN. Now Rintarou and his friends are in danger and must try to undo the damage they have caused.
