In the midst of the 20th-century theater boom, Kokona Ootori, a teenager with big dreams, sets her sights on becoming a World Dai Star, the highest accolade for performers in the musical theater world. Her journey begins with an audition for the prestigious theater troupe, Sirius, where only the best performers, known as Dai Stars, are able to shine. Inspired by her best friend Shizuka and driven by a passion for the stage, Kokona is determined to overcome her previous failures and prove her worth in the competitive world of theater.

As Kokona navigates the trials and tribulations of the theater scene, she encounters formidable opponents like Kathrina Griebel, a talented German actress who represents her biggest challenge yet. Each rehearsal and performance is a step towards her dream, but also a test of her resolve and talent.
