The Taipingtao Revolution in China caused a lot of death and despair, and as a result, these negative emotions formed miasma and created malignant creatures called "wangliang." These creatures can possess humans and turn them into demons, creating a vicious cycle of death and despair. To combat this, the immortal deities known as the "Tianyuan" chose certain individuals to be "Hunters" and gave them "Guizhan" specialists to help them absorb miasma and transform into demons themselves.

After a tragic accident involving an out-of-control Guizhan caused the disbandment of the Sixth Hunter Unit, the Tianyuan designated three Hunters - Ji Ying, Qiao Xun, and Yan Ding - to reform the group. However, for an unknown reason, they also appointed Xiao Ling, the young Guizhan responsible for the former unit's downfall, to fight alongside them. Despite the tensions between them, they must work together to defeat the wangliang.
